You don't need to let us know if you're going abroad and want to use your credit card or debit card.

To use your credit card or debit card while you're away, just look for the MasterCard® logo. You can use it the same way as you do in the UK, including contactless payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

You can use your credit card or debit card in over twenty million shops and restaurants, and over one million cash machines in most countries all across the world.

For credit cards:
Our Travel Card, Virgin Money Slyce and Everyday Cashback card do not charge non-sterling transaction fees regardless of where the transaction took place (inside or outside EEA).

• We do not charge a Non-Sterling Transaction Fee if the transaction takes place inside the European Economic Area (EEA) and the transaction is made in Euros, Swedish Kronor or Romanian Lei
• We will charge a Non-Sterling Transaction Fee if the transaction takes place outside of the European Economic Area (EEA)
• You will be charged a Cash Advance Fee for any withdrawals from your credit card when abroad (inside and outside of the EEA)

For full details about what you will be charged when using your credit card on holiday, please see the ‘Key facts about your card’ on your statement, under ‘foreign usage’.

If you'd like to talk to us about your credit card while you’re abroad, you can find our contact number here. Please call the 'From outside UK' number.

For debit cards:
We won't charge you for spending on your debit card or withdrawing cash when you're abroad. Just remember, local transactions limits might be different to the UK, and you may be charged from the ATM for withdrawing cash from your debit card.

If you make a debit card payment in a foreign currency, we will convert this at the Mastercard exchange rate, usually on the day you use your debit card. This will be the rate you’ll see on your account statement. Additional fees (if applicable) will be shown separately in the statement wording (see "Fees for card payments outside the UK").

If you'd like to talk to us about your debit card while you’re abroad, you can find our contact number here. Please call the 'From outside UK' number.
